Electronic Prescribing Service
Use the NHS App or NHS website to order your prescription
About EPS (Electronic Prescribing Service)
EPS allows prescribers to send prescriptions electronically to a pharmacy of your choice. This makes the prescribing and dispensing process more efficient and convenient. Electronic prescriptions are reliable, secure and confidential.
Electronic Prescriptions
Most prescriptions are now signed, sent and processed electronically.
You have 2 choices for how this works.
- You can choose a pharmacy to dispense all your prescriptions. When you get a prescription, it will be sent to the pharmacy you have chosen. You can collect your medicines or appliances without a paper prescription.
- You can decide each time where you would like to collect your medicine. We will give you a unique code to enable any pharmacy in England to download your prescription from the secure NHS database.
Paper prescriptions will continue to be available in special circumstances only.
If your pharmacist doesn't have the item in stock
Please ask them to release the prescription. You can then give the the prescription barcode or your NHS number to a different pharmacy. You do not need a new prescription from the GP.
Cancelling or changing your choice of pharmacist or dispenser
You can change or cancel your choice of dispenser at any time. Speak to your GP team or pharmacist before you order your next prescription.
